.: About Me :.

I was born in Tokyo, Japan on the 3rd July, 1981. I've lived around the world: Tokyo (twice), Spain and several places in England (currently Leeds). I'm currently studying Artificial Intelligence and Japanese at the University of Leeds.

I formed Generation5 with Samuel Hsuing and Edward Kao for the 1998 ThinkQuest competition. The success of the site made me buy a domain name and continue development of Generation5 myself.

Other things I've done:

  • ASMGuru - A series of assembly programming tutorials for the Texas Instruments TI-83. These were subsequently converted to the TI-83 Plus for Texas Instruments (now called AppGuru).
  • AI Wisdom - Wrote a chapter on the A* pathing algorithm.
  • AI Wisdom 2 - Writing 2 chapters on speech recognition and text-to-speech.
  • Texas Instruments - Wrote AppHeader, Convhex, Convbmp, Menu Creator, and all the Tutorials.

Computing

I enjoy many aspects of computing and computer science and enjoy learning both within educational hours (!) and my own spare time. Here are some of the skill I've acquired along the way:
  • Programming: C++/Visual C++ (MFC/COM), Z80 assembly programming, ASP (VBScript/Access/XML).
  • Web development: ASP, HTML/CSS (W3C-compliant!), XML, XSL, Adobe Photoshop.
  • Mobile development: WML, Windows CE, Smartphone 2002.
I've studied a lot of different fields outside of artificial intelligence. More specifically, during my course at university I've covered basic networking (Internet protocols, Ethernet systems), computer operating systems (memory/disk/CPU management), software engineering (ISO-standards in software design), decision modelling (MP and decision analysis), functional programming (SML), logic programming (Prolog), strict-OOP programming (Java), parallel programming (MPI), computer graphics (OpenGL), theory of computation (DFAs/Turing Machines) and more. It is more interesting than it sounds, honestly…

For those of you interested, you can read more about my computer setup here.

Thankfully, my interests extend far beyond computers. I am an avid guitar player and have a love for anything Japanese.
